Team

The MCFA team is comprised of a group of dynamic individuals from varying backgrounds and different walks of life. Singularly, each individual offers a unique skill set with expansive knowledge - both general and specific - within a specific field; collectively, the group offers an unparalleled spectrum of knowledge and practical experience across many fields. A snapshot of this collective experience and knowledge is briefly described below; please note - the individuals represented below do not provide a complete capture of the MCFA team.

At or away from work, the MCFA team is continuously thinking about and solving challenges – whether the challenge involves renovating a 200 year old townhouse or delivering a more efficient technology to better utilize finite energy resources.

Rebecca Fuhrman

Hometown: Altoona, PA

Work Experience: As a CPA with PNC Bank and later Ernst and Young I was a stickler for the details. I saw first-hand how organizations can break down if they aren’t using good financial analysis to make decisions and rigorous, repetitious processes in their operations. Prior to that experience, I worked in the hotel industry where outstanding customer service wasn’t a competitive advantage, it was a minimum requirement. I started MCFA with these three principles as our hallmark. I knew a consulting firm dedicated to unrelenting customer service, rigorous analysis, and process would flourish and I’m proud to say we are!

Education: Bachelor of Arts in Hotel and Restaurant Management, The Pennsylvania State University

Bachelor of Science, Summa Cum Laude, in Accounting, Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Michael Fuhrman

Hometown: Cherry Hill, NJ

Work Experience: I started my career as a city planner with the City of Altoona, PA where I learned the reality of budgetary and regulatory constraints that civil servants have to navigate. Subsequently, I worked for the Michael Baker Corporation and Urban Engineers where I specialized in land use, infrastructure and transportation planning. While both were excellent and well-respected companies, I often use my experience in the hospitality industry to ensure that MCFA clients receive customer service reminiscent of a five-star hotel. Our clients hire us for our energy, creativity, and reliablity- if we can’t deliver these, then what’s the point? For more of my thoughts, click here for my blog.

Education: Bachelor of Arts Degree in Urban Studies with State of New Jersey Certification in City Planning and Community Development, Rutgers University

Masters in Public Administration, University of Pittsburgh.

Jon Nehlsen

Hometown: Collingswood, NJ

Work Experience: Prior to joining MCFA in 2006, I spent 7 years with Honeywell International in various roles of increasing responsibility in IT and Corporate Finance. My most formative role was as a financial and process auditor during which I traveled the globe for 3 years. In fact I didn’t even have a permanent home, unless you consider the Marriott a home. My final role at Honeywell was as a Process Excellence Leader for a 300-person finance and accounting team where I led projects to move our transactional processes to lower cost labor markets in the developing world. I currently wear two hats as MCFA’s finance leader and as a consultant specializing in business process improvement and program evaluation.

Education: BA Economics cum laude, Villanova University
MS, Public Policy and Management with Honors, Carnegie Mellon University
MBA, The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania

Personal Info: I always have a few projects going at the same time so I’m currently working on transforming myself into a marathon runner and writing a book. I currently reside in Collingswood, NJ and look forward to the Phillies 4th straight pennant.

Why MCFA?: I met Michael and Rebecca several years ago when we lived in Pittsburgh and we had talked about this idea since then. Coming from a huge multi-national corporation to this small entrepreneurial enterprise has been a dramatic change for me. We are so close to the results of our decisions here and I wouldn’t trade the experience for the world. When we succeed, the success is palpable and when we fail, the pain is acute.

Tracy Wieczorek

Hometown: Currently, Phoenix, AZ

Work Experience: I started out as an intern sponsored by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education or ORISE for short, and assisted in the overall management of cultural resources at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland – a Department of Defense Army installation. From there I went on the complete my BS and, then, was requested to return to Aberdeen to manage the cultural resources program. One of my first tasks shifted me into work involving the National Environmental Policy Act and I completed a programmatic environmental assessment allowing Aberdeen to effectively manage older, underutilized, but National Register-eligible buildings. From there, I moved full force into work regarding NEPA and haven’t looked back. I’ve worked on a couple environmental impact statements, more than a few environmental assessments, loads of cultural resources compliance work, and all types of US Army real estate documentation, but, now I am currently involved in the management of Enhanced Use Lease actions at Aberdeen.

Education: BS, Historic Preservation, Roger Williams University
AAS, Building Preservation and Restoration, Belmont Technical College

Personal Info: I love old houses. Prior to moving to Phoenix, my husband, two cats, and I lived in a 1925 Dutch Colonial in a suburb just outside of Buffalo, NY. When we purchased the house, we knew that it had great ‘bones’ and just needed some TLC. We spent the next four years of weekends transforming the house from okay to outstanding and worked on everything from infrastructure to cosmetic details! Now, I am trying to find the perfect fixer-upper here in Phoenix and, when I’m not busy with that, trying to tackle 60 hikes within 60 miles of Phoenix.

Working at MCFA is not for everyone, what qualities are essential for success at MCFA?: Unchanging, fundamental qualities such as integrity, honesty, character, personal responsibility, and so forth are important for most people to succeed anywhere. Unique to MCFA, though, and, perhaps, to small businesses in general, success requires self-motivation, independent thinking, persistence, flexibility, desire, adaptability, confidence, and curiosity… these qualities are critical realizing a small work group, thin management layer, and very dynamic business environment.

Jeff Weissman

Hometown: Currently Athens, Alabama

Work Experience: I am the Director of the Energy Solutions Division of MCFA. Prior to joining MCFA in September 2009, I served 27 years in the US Army. I am a retired Army Colonel and former Garrison Commander who specializes in the development, implementation and management of Energy and Infrastructure Programs. My professional experience includes project management, logistics management, strategic planning and the development of energy efficiency plans and programs.

Education: BS, Mechanical Engineering, United States Military Academy, West Point MS, Strategic Studies, United States Army War College, Carlisle Barracks

Personal Info: I was born in Brooklyn, NY, raised on Long Island, and graduated from Kings Park Sr. High School majoring in Football and Lacrosse. I’m lucky enough to be married to my beautiful wife Vickie, and we have six (yes, I said six) great kids. The Army has taken us around the World several times, and we’re happy to finally be able to lay down our roots in Northeast Alabama.

Why MCFA?: As a former Garrison Commander, I developed a passion for Energy Conservation. That happens when you pay $40M/yr utility bills. MCFA offered me the opportunity to continue developing that passion and spread the successes we had on our Installation to other Military Installations and Corporate clients around the Country. Although I’ve taken off the uniform, I’m grateful that I’m still able to support Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines through our Facility Management and Energy Management Prog
