MCFA Executive Speaks to Congressional Leaders
December 9, 2011
MCFA Chief Financial Officer Jon Nehlsen was invited to speak before the Congress’s bipartisan Defense Business Panel today at Burlington County College’s Mt. Laurel campus. The focus of the discussion between local business and the Members of Congress on the panel was issues faced by businesses doing work with the Department of Defense, with special emphasis on the issues that small to medium-sized businesses face. Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA) and Rep. Rick Larsen (D-WA) led the panel as chairman and ranking member, respectively. Other panel members included Rep. Jon Runyan (R-NJ), Rep. Colleen Hanabusa (D-HI), Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ) and Rep. Bobby Schilling (R-IL).
Mr. Nehlsen said of the experience, “The Armed Services Committee is doing the right thing by leaving the Beltway and meeting the business people who create jobs. We discussed several issues but most prominent were concerns about veterans returning from overseas and not having viable employment opportunities and a general sense that Defense Department contracting officials have a risk aversion to using small businesses. Hopefully these discussions will result in legislative measures to correct these pressing issues.”
